
With the nuclear disaster this week in Japan, there has been an enormous demand for potassium iodide which helps prevents radiation poisoning in the the thyroid gland.
The demand is so high that major pharmaceutical companies across the U.S are having a hard time supplying the product not only oversees, but also to frantic Americans who fear the radiation might reach the U.S.
Anbex, one of the leading suppliers, sold out of nearly 10,000 tablet packages on Saturday.
Fleming Pharmaceuticals, another supplier is getting dozens of calls an hour and is expected to run out of the liquid form of potassium iodide this week.
Although it is predicted the risk will be low for any dangerous levels of radiation reaching the U.S., the incident has Americans taking extra precaution.
